Barnie, a white teen dealing bullies at school and a dysfunctional family at home, finds solace in a budding romance with Wiona, a Black girl from the African-American side of town. However, since it is 1963, a time when interracial romances were not widely accepted, Barnie gets a crash course in love and the racial politics that can often jeopardize it.
