Sylvia D. Hamilton is a highly celebrated filmmaker, writer, poet, artist, and professor. A pioneering filmmaker, and influential historian, her work frequently explores the lives and experiences of African Nova Scotians. The founder of the independent production company Maroon Films Inc, Hamilton was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada in 2024.
